SOUTHLAND OLYMPIC TRENCH CLUB

The SOTC was opened on 18 July 1987 at the Balfour Gun Club grounds. It shoots under the rules of ISSF (International Shooting Sport Federation).

There are eight trench layouts in New Zealand. We are the furthermost south. We hold qualifying events for international competition eg Olympic and Commonwealth Games, as well as World Cup events.

The event consists of 125 targets and the top 6 shooters get to shoot a final round of 25 targets. The competitor stands 15 metres back from where the target appears at ground level.

The field has 15 traps set under ground level, and are pre set to differing angles, heights ands speeds. Each competitor will shoot at all the same targets but at different times. The computer controls the match of 25 targets. The targets are released by a voice activated mechanism.

Double trap is also shot over this field. Two targets are thrown together from the middle traps. This event is held over 75 pair of targets and the top 6 shooters get to shoot a 25 pair final.
