Our School

Take a closer look at life at Balfour School — from how we support learning in the classroom to the strong connections we build with our whānau and community.

You’ll also find what we value, what guides us, and how we create a positive and engaging environment for our tamariki.

Learning at Balfour

We have three classes catering for students from Year 0–6, with small class sizes supported by Teacher Aides.

Each student receives a quality, multifaceted programme from our dedicated teaching staff. While there is a strong focus on core subjects, our teachers also design inquiry-based learning that inspires curiosity and extends learning beyond the classroom.

Learning Beyond the Classroom

Our local environment plays an important role in learning. Students take part in school camps and outdoor experiences including tramping, skiing, fishing, boating and exploring the history of Otago and Southland.

We are also caretakers of the Glenure Reserve in the Hokonui Hills, where students learn to nurture and respect this special area.

Our Community

We believe that nurturing positive relationships with students, whānau and community builds strong connections that promote academic growth. Our school values are embedded in our learning programmes and we recognise and celebrate the diverse cultures within our school.

We are well resourced and supported by our amazing whānau and community through a variety of fun, family events. We share our upcoming events through our newsletter.

Our Environment

Our grounds offer a mix of natural and purpose-built play areas, including a large field and swimming pool.

We also have an orchard, vegetable garden and propagation shed, providing opportunities to extend learning through hands-on experiences.
