PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE
Kia Ora Parents & Whānau,
Our children have been working hard on their artwork for the Riversdale Art Exhibition, which opens on Saturday, 20 June, alongside all their usual reading, writing and maths learning. Unfortunately, the Fire Brigade visit was postponed on Wednesday, but they will now be coming in on Thursday next week.
A special mention to Charlotte in Year 5, who is representing us at Southland Cross Country. We wish her all the best for a great run and look forward to hearing how she gets on.
Later today, some of our Filipino families will be joining us to celebrate Philippines Day. A big thank you to Joan Magno for organising this event and for our lovely families who brought in food for the children to sample..
On Wednesday, 1 July, we will be holding a Matariki Disco in Rooms 1 and 2 from 5.30–6.45pm. We are asking for a gold coin donation which will be used for subsidising camps. The children are also busy preparing their speeches, with Korimako speeches taking place on the morning of Tuesday 11 August (time to be confirmed). Tui and Pīwakawaka will share their speeches on Friday 14 August, running simultaneously as they did last year.
On the last day of term, we will have a non‑uniform/mufti day to celebrate the end of a long and busy term. Tomorrow, our Home and School team will be hosting a Chinese hypnotist show, and we hope you are able to support this fundraiser as it will help raise important funds that directly benefit your children.

MATARIKI SHOW
On Friday, 3rd July, there will be a community Matariki Light Show taking place in Lumsden from 5.30–7.30pm, and we’re delighted that Balfour School students have contributed artwork to the display.
It should be a good evening with plenty of other things going on as well.

KORIMAKO - Week 8 has been another busy week of learning in our classroom. In Mathematics, students have been working on number operations, with a focus on understanding the rules for multiplying any number by 0 and 1. In Writing, students continued developing their narrative writing skills by planning, drafting, and improving their stories. Students have also been busy completing their artwork for the upcoming Riversdale Art Exhibition, showing creativity and care in their work. We look forward to seeing their finished pieces on display. Wishing everyone a wonderful weekend.

PIWAKAWAKA Kia ora,
This week we have a number of students who have completed their Fairy Tale writing and their exhibit for Riversdale Art Exhibition. We have continued to practise our handwriting, our multiplication. We have learnt about doubling the consonant (Year3) and Dear Deidre the Deer (alternative spellings of the 'air' sound, Year 4).

TUI Kia ora whānau,
This week, Tui have excitedly been preparing for our presentation at assembly. This has meant lots of singing practice for 'The Farmer Plants the Seed' and doing our own pictures and summaries of the lifecycles for flowers, frogs, and butterflies. We have also been practicing our CVC words and 'ng' sound words. Our NE have been focusing on who and where with writing, Year 1/2 have been focusing on converting fragments to sentences, and Year 2 have been focusing on unscrambling sentences to make it make sense.
