PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE
Kia Ora Parents & Whānau,
Students have made the most of this week’s sunshine, enjoying a range of games out on
the field in between plenty of focused learning in the classroom. Our knitters have also
been hard at work, selling their creations on Tuesdays and Thursdays, with a growing list of
special orders keeping them busy. A number of other entrepreneurial students have been
fundraising for camps by baking and selling their goodies, and together they have raised a
total of $445.00 so far. On Wednesday, there was a queue as long as you could see!
Korimako are continuing their fundraising by selling The Good Oil, so please get your
orders in to support them. Pīwakawaka are hoping to sell Whittaker’s chocolate bars soon.
Korimako speeches will take place on Monday 10th August, and a letter was sent home this
week with your child’s scheduled time. Pīwakawaka and Tui speeches will be held on
Friday 14th August, and we will provide timing information next week. We look forward to
seeing you at these events.
We hope you have been able to download the Hero app, as this is now our main way of
communicating with families. Without the app, you will not receive important messages, be
able to notify us of absences, or book parent–teacher interviews, which are coming up later
this month.

HERO COMMUNICATIONS APP
Just a reminder to please download Hero onto your preferred device. Instructions for this were on last week's newsletter and sent via email. We need everybody to have this downloaded by 14th August. As this will be our main way of communicating. Please advise us if you do not have good reception for your device at your house. Any questions please contact the office.
CAMP FUNDRAISERS
We are currently taking orders for 'The Good Oil' to fundraise
for Senior school (Korimako) camp later this year. It is the same oil we sold last year.
Order forms for this will be sent home this afternoon with your child/children.
We will also be selling Whittakers chocolate bars. This is to fundraise for Piwakawaka Camp. These will
come in a box of 36 bars which will be $108 Or you may purchase individually for $3 a bar. These are easily sold, everyone loves chocolate so try your neighbours and extended family etc. We have also included this order form at the end of this newsletter. If you only wish to purchase bars not packs just write bars in the column that says Qty Fundraising packs. All profits from both these fundraisers will go towards lowering the cost of school camp.
KNITTING AND BAKE SALE FUNDRAISERS
Congratulations to all those who knitted and baked for our Knitting and Bake sale this week. You raised a grand total of $445.40. Well done. Thank you very much to the parents who supported this fundraiser by sending money along for your child/children to purchase from these stalls.
KORIMAKO - It has been another busy and productive week in Korimako. Students have been completing the Daily Challenge in Writer's Toolbox each day and are thoroughly enjoying using the application to develop their writing skills. It has been great to see their confidence and enthusiasm grow as they practise writing regularly.
In Mathematics, we have continued our learning in Algebra, focusing on equations and understanding the relationships between numbers. In Social Science, we have begun an exciting new unit exploring the history of the Chinese Dynasties, learning about ancient Chinese civilisation and its lasting influence on the world.
We also have an exciting few weeks ahead, with our school speech competition and the mixed netball competition taking place in Week 4. Students are continuing to prepare their speeches at school, and we encourage parents and caregivers to support them by listening to their speeches and helping them practise at home. Your encouragement and feedback make a big difference to their confidence.

PIWAKAWAKA Kia ora,
This week in Piwakawaka we have had Ms Dizon visiting to see how we teach. She is from the Philippines. We have been painting planets. The class got to paint a planet each. We have been getting ready for speeches by looking at some videos, also by getting an item out of a container and talking about it.

Today in Piwakawaka Ms Dizon is visiting us to see how we teach in New Zealand. She is a teacher from the Philippines.
Yesterday Kirsty hung up the planets on the roof. Also, we have been practising for speeches and watching a few videos.
We watched a video of Ancient Egypt. Then we traced a map of North Africa and Egypt.
This term, Honour Roll is Movie Afternoon. You have to get 7 stickers. We have been learning about Michael Angelos' paintings. He painted four girls and himself in pencil. One of the girls is a print of his famous one.

Kia ora Whānau,
This week has been great to explore and expand our learning of prior knowledge with new concepts - we did this in Maths using arrays and noticing patterns when doing addition, subtraction, multiplication and division problems. For Writing we have been starting with looking at what it might be like to be a principal for a day and also getting started on our speech preparation. In the afternoons we have been practicing our Handwriting and continuing to expand our knowledge of the past and present using Māori Myths and Legends. We have also started exploring Te Whare Tapa Whā and how this health model can show the importance of different health areas.
